The Memory of a Scar
Worse yet, what if Kay got amnesia?
What if she wasn't able to remember the night she and Anne jumped out of her bedroom window and went to that party anyway? Kay wouldn't be able to tell her four children that it was the night she met her future husband, their Dad. Or that the scar on her palm was from the rock she landed on. She wouldn't be able to recall and laugh at how silly it was to jump out of the window when they really could have just walked out the front door. Anne's parents were early and sound sleepers and probably wouldn't have heard them, but jumping out of the window felt more rebellious and adventurous. These would be terrible memories to lose track of in a broken mind.
