Unextraordinary Memories
The girls woke in the morning to the sound of rain gently falling on the roof. The smell of something sweet like pancakes or waffles drifted up the stairs. Kay rolled over and pretended to be asleep. She could feel everything best if she closed her eyes and focused on how each thing felt. She wanted to remember all of it because it felt so good. The sound of the rain was calming and hypnotic. The sounds and smells of her Mom preparing breakfast downstairs felt safe. Feeling her sisters still lying on the floor next to her felt like love. These beautiful, unextraordinary memories stayed with her forever.
